If You're Under 25 - Avoid These Skincare Mistakes

Younger skin doesn’t only look different, it is structurally different too.  That is why it is important that you use skincare that is made for your age and stage of life.  If you are under 25 years old you need to stop doing these 10 things right now.

1. Using skincare products with endocrine disruptors in it

The endocrine system is a complex network of glands and organs, it utilises hormones to control and coordinate the body’s metabolism, energy levels, reproduction, growth and development as well as its response to injury, stress and mood.  The chemicals known as endocrine disruptors are found in everyday products, some plastic bottles and containers, liners of metal food cans, detergents, flame retardants, food, toys, cosmetics and pesticides.  They are also found in skincare.  When you are under 25 and are still developing, the last thing your body needs are ingredients that could interfere with your hormonal development. That is why at Evre. we use 100% natural and clean formulations and choose to leave out; parabens, silicones, sulphates (SLS/SLES), phthalate, mineral oil, petrochemicals, PEGs and synthetic fragrances and colours.

2. Doing over complicated skin care regimes

When you have younger skin it is important to keep your routine simple and consistent.  If there are too many steps it can backfire and cause more problems.  If you try too many new products at once it can lead to increased skin irritation, introduce new products slowly.

3. Not using SPF

You will be saving yourself a lifetime of money and effort not to mention avoiding skin pigmentation and even worse, skin cancer.  Always go for an SPF50 and use it every day even when the weather is overcast.

4. Over exfoliating

Don’t exfoliate too often. The result is the opposite of what you want. By overstimulating your skin, you irritate it, you also make your natural skin barrier more vulnerable to bacteria and harsh elements, which in turn leads to skin problems.  Our Time To Shine Raspberry & Almond Gentle Face Scrub is very gentle but does the trick when you want to remove dead skin cells without damaging your skin, use it twice a week.

5. Skipping moisturiser

As your skin isn't mature you don’t need a heavy thick moisturiser.  Look for light moisturisers that won’t clog your pores. A moisturiser locks in your serums and helps protect your skin barrier plus it keeps your skin hydrated.  We recommend our Super Nice Mānuka Honey & Vitamin E Face Moisturiser it contains UMF10+ Manuka Honey which has amazing antibacterial properties.

6. Delaying treatment for your acne

As soon as you start getting blemishes it is important to start a good cleansing and moisturising regime.  You can then start to incorporate more treatment products to help combat your blemishes, if you don’t see an improvement after 6-8 weeks you should go and speak to your doctor about it.

7. Using vitamin A/retinols

At this age there are better skincare treatments to spend your money on.  Only use a vitamin A/retinol if you are over 30 and are starting to see signs of ageing, or you are under 30 and lead an unhealthy lifestyle that involves sunbathing and smoking.

8. Expecting overnight results

Any skincare that works overnight is probably using strong actives that give you an immediate result but with long term usage will wreak havoc on your skin by destroying your skin barrier.  Most skincare takes 6-8 weeks to work, so patience is needed to see long term results.

9. Using eye creams

Eye creams are not essential when you are younger, save you money and skip this step.  You can use your moisturiser or hydration serum under your eyes instead.

10. Using sheet masks and wipes

They are terrible for the environment, no one at any age should use them.  Instead invest in some muslin cloths that you can re-use to easily remove your makeup and cleanse your face.  Our Fancy Muslin Cloths are great for this as they also provide a gentle exfoliation action.
